GUWAHATI, March 16 - Sleuths of the customs department on Wednesday seized high-end Vietnam-made shoes worth several lakhs of rupees from the cargo of a Delhi-bound Indigo flight.
The Indigo flight 6E3906 originated in Imphal and was bound for New Delhi via Guwahati. Joy Mahanta of the LGBI unit of customs department led the operation along with other designated officials, sources said. �The consignment came in 20 packets without adhering to the duty norms,� sources stated.
This is the second major haul of Vietnam-made goods in the last six months or so. Last year in October, an illegal consignment of shoes and garments worth more than one crore rupees was seized from the cargo of a flight at the LGBI Airport.
�Guwahati has over the years emerged as the transit point of such smuggled goods, especially originating in Vietnam and China. We are keeping a close tab on such designs,� sources added.
