NAGAON, July 11 - �A vicious circle has been active since the pre-Independence days to harm the Assamese and other ethnic languages of the State and its anti-Assamese activities are in full swing till now.� This was observed by Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi, chief of Asam Sahitya Sabha while attending a Chintan Baithak here on July 10.
Sabha president Dr Rajbongshi called upon every body to fight unitedly against the anti-Assamese lobby to protect our culture and language.
He also demanded scrapping of the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 at any cost for the betterment of our people, language and culture. He stressed that people who are interested to work in the State should know the official language of the State. Dr Rajbongshi further alleged that a Bengali lobby is active in char areas to divert the minds of the char people from Assamese to Bengali language.
Commenting on the Unicode, Rajbongshi said that Asam Sahitya Sabha was trying to convince the authority that Assamese language and script are different from Bengali.
Secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha Padum Rajkhuwa explained the significance of the function. Sankari scholar Tilak Chandra Majumdar and others also expressed their views in the function.
Asam Sahitya Sabha also arranged a Raij Mel here recently to discuss the present situation in the State. Opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, all the speakers expressed that this fight is not against the Bengali people but for the interest of the future generation of the State. A large number of eminent personalities of Nagaon took part in the discussion which was chaired by Nityananda Bora, vice president of Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha.
