Veterinary college to be set up in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, Jan 24 - Nagaland Government and Central Agriculture University, Imphal signed an MoU for establishment of a College of Veterinary Science, Nagaland at Jalukie in Peren district.

The MoU was signed in Kohima on January 22 by Nagaland chief secretary Pankaj Kumar on behalf of Nagaland Government while CAU Registrar Dr P Madhusoodanan Pillai signed it on behalf of Central Agriculture University, Imphal.

As per the MoU, the college will introduce various courses on veterinary and other related disciplines with the approval of the Board of Management, CAU, Imphal, an official release said.

In his address, Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar said it was indeed a milestone and an achievement for the State and hoped that the process of establishing CAU Veterinary College at Jalukie would start soon with the signing of MoU.

Addressing the gathering, Registrar of CAU, Dr Pillai said agriculture is the lifeline for the people of North East and expressed hope that through this small intervention by CAU, the people would benefit in the field of agriculture.

He also informed that the College would begin its academic session by enrolling around twenty students by July 2016 while stating that the college might come under the University in Meghalaya.

Dr Pillai said that the progress and ultimate result of the proposed plan would be seen �within two to three months�.

Commissioner & Secretary, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, MK Mero said the veterinary college at Jalukie will be the second CAU veterinary college in North East with the first being in Mizoram. He further said 266 acres of land belonging to Veterinary Department has been given on lease for the establishment of the college at Jalukie.
