Veteran TT team feted

GUWAHATI, March 11 � The Assam Table Tennis Association (ATTA) today honoured the members of the State team which won four medals in the 17th National Veterans Table Tennis Championship held at Jammu from March 5 to 9.

The Assam men team won the title, while the women team became runners-up. In the open category, Soneswar Deka and Madalasa Baruah won silver medals in men�s and women�s sections respectively.

ATTA president Rockybul Hussain, secretary Tridib Duvarah, vice-president Nandini Baruah, officials Bijoy Hazarika, Prabir Kr Das were present on the occasion along with a host of former players.

The Assam team members � Soneswar Deka, Gautam Hazarika, Curfew Roy, Nayanjyoti Sarma, Madalasa Baruah and Ghritachi Das were honoured with sarai, japi and bouquet.

Speaking on the occasion, the ATTA president said they are leaving no stone unturned to bring back the golden era of Assam TT. He revealed that 53 boards will be distributed to the districts so that the youngsters of all over the State can make good use of it in their practice sessions. The ATTA also brought five robot machines for the State youngsters.

ATTA secretary Tridib Duvarah explained about their planning for the beginners all over the State. They are also planning to hold few more State level tournaments.
