By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 3 Veteran journalist and chief adviser of the Assam Senior Citizens Association (ASCA), DN Chakravartty has appealed to the over a million educated elderly people of the State in general and the retired government officers in particular to extend necessary assistance to the government in order to enable all sections of the people to complete the formalities regarding the filing of NRC data.

Referring to the reports of large numbers of illiterate persons getting confused and even the educated sections of the people facing difficulties in filing up the requisite form, Chakravartty appealed to the elderly citizens to visit at least 20 families individually in the course of the remaining few days of completion of NRC formalities and guide the persons in filling up the forms.

Local senior citizens associations should organise special camps where selected persons from the villages should be trained in respect of the filling up of the particular forms provided by the Government, he said.

Chakravartty who is also a retired Director of Information and Public Relations, Assam, suggested that the State DIPR should also deploy their officers throughout the State for giving wide publicity through the public address system and for regular public meetings to enlighten the people, particularly the illiterate sections of society, to complete the formalities without any difficulty.

The State Information Department should also assist the NRC authorities in removing whatever misgivings might be there in the minds of the people, Chakravartty said, adding that with a concerted assistance of the educated elderly citizens of Assam, the Government would be able to overcome all the obstacles which now appear to be stupendous.
