Veteran journalist Kshetra Phukan no more

GUWAHATI, Oct 29 - Veteran journalist and former Deputy Editor of The Assam Tribune, Kshetradhar Phukan breathed his last at his residence here this morning. He was 85. He had been bedridden for many days and suffering from kidney and respiratory ailments.

A trade union leader, Phukan during his lifetime played a vital role in strengthening the trade union movement in Assam. He was a key member of the Assam Tribune Employees Union and was vocal and uncompromising for the rights of newspaper employees. He joined The Assam Tribune in 1964 and retired in 1995. He was a prolific writer of articles and editorials in The Assam Tribune. A bachelor, Phukan leaves behind two sisters and three brothers besides a host of relatives.

His last rites were performed at Navagraha crematorium.
