Veteran cricketers observe foundation day

GUWAHATI, Oct 11 � The Veteran Cricket Association of Assam (VCAA) has observed its 16th foundation day in a befitting manner at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here last evening.

On the occasion the veteran cricketers� body honoured Abdur Roub (Baboon) with the best coach award. Dr Tapan Dutta was presented the best sports organisers award while Sunil Bhattacharjee was honoured with the life time achievement award.

The organisers also honoured cricketers Akshay Narain (U-16), Mrinmoy Dutta (U-19), Amit Sinha (U-25), Gakul Sharma (Ranji), Ritu Dhruv (women) and Shanti Rai (girls U-19) for their performances in the BCCI tournaments last year. The U-19 women team, joint winners in all India tournament was also felicitated by the VCAA.

Assam Cricket Association president Gautam Roy, joint secretary Sanatan Das, former Indian women team player, Arjun Award winner Anju Jain, BCCI match referee Sohail Ansari, cricketer Bimal Bharali, journalists Subodh Malla Baruah, Pronoy Bordoloi, CMD of Prag Channel Sanjaive Narain were present on the occasion, informs VCAA secretary Nasir Gul Khan in a release. Gautam Roy has donated Rs 1 lakh to the organisation.
