�Vernacular medium can facilitate effective learning�

GUWAHATI, June 12 � �The commendable performance of students from various Assamese medium schools in the HSLC examination for past several years is an encouraging example for the other students who study in the vernacular medium schools.�

Lauding the efforts of Shishu Shiksha Samiti, Assam towards grooming the students for their overall development along with the academic excellence, Kamaleswar Bora, former vice-chancellor of the Dibrugarh University today said that education in vernacular medium can facilitate effective learning.

He was speaking as the chief guest of the felicitation ceremony organised for the rank holder students from the Sankardev Shishu/Vidya Niketan from across the State and the principals of the Shishu Niketan schools achieving 100 per cent result in the HSLC examination this year.

Out of 151 Sankardev Shishu Niketan and Vidya Niketan, 107 schools have achieved 100 per cent result in the HSLC examination. Out of the total top 20 rank holders in the State this year, 28 students are from these schools, including the topper Jugal Talukdar, a student of Chaukhuti Sankardev Shishu Niketan of Barpeta.

Dr Nirmal Kumar Choudhury, former vice-chancellor of the Gauhati University while speaking on the occasion pointed out the need of overall personality development of the students along with the formal education. �Incorporating some of the essential skills like physical training, yoga and music, the Shishu Siksha Samity schools have taken some positive steps towards overall development of the students. Moreover, the students get to learn the languages like Sanskrit, Hindi and English along with their mother tongue Assamese in the Shishu Niketan schools,� he mentioned.

Out of the total 3,678 students who appeared from the Sankardev Shishu /Vidya Niketan schools in the HSLC exam this year, 3,563 students have been successful, recording 97 per cent result for the Shishu/Vidya Niketan Schools in the State. Businessman and a member of the Shishu Siksha Samiti, Assam Sankar Lall Goenka also congratulated the students and teachers on the occasion. The meeting was presided over by Atulananda Goswami, litt�rateur and president of the Samiti.
