GUWAHATI, Sept 21 - The third annual All India Vedic Astrological Conference on its second day today discussed at length various aspects of Vedic culture and religion and analysed the origin and growth of astrological study in India during the Vedic days 5,000 years ago.
The event is being held at the Pragjyoti-ITA Centre of Performing Arts, Machkhowa.
Inaugurating the discussion today, Dr Pitambar Deva Goswami, Sattradhikar of Sri Sri Auniati Sattra, dwelt at length on how the Indian people started studying at length the mystery of the universe and how they were fully aware of the stars and planets and their influence on plants, animals and mankind.
Dr Kumud Sarma Shastri, the president of the All India Vedic Astrological Conference Committee-2019, welcomed the guests and explained the study and development of astrology in Assam long before the Christian era.
DN Chakravartty, who was felicitated at the function, said in his address that it was the Indian astrologers who could foretell accurately the solar and lunar eclipses long before scientists like Kepler and Galileo studied those. He also referred to the scientific base of astrology.
Noted Sanskrit scholar from the University of Calcutta, Prof Ravindranath Bhattacharya, in his speech, spoke on the glory of Indian astrology and explained how the Vedas discovered the mystery of creation, long before modern scientists could know anything about the stars and the planets.
