IMPHAL, March 27 � Intensifying their ongoing agitation, All Manipur VDF (Village Defence Force) Welfare Association has called a 24-hour Statewide general strike beginning midnight tonight.
The Association in a press release also demanded unconditional release of the arrested VDF personnel along with 40 two wheelers which were seized by the police during the VDF march to CM�s bungalow in Imphal on March 25.
The VDF body regretted the lack of response from the government to their memorandum till date. Such inaction and indifferent attitude of the government has forced us to call the strike, the press release added. The VDF Welfare Association has been demanding a hike in its honorarium, separate battalion for VDF personnel, 13-month pay, etc.
