GUWAHATI, March 2 � Cotton College State University (CCSU) Vice-Chancellor D J Saikia today assured the students of the university that a meeting would be convened at the Kalaguru Bishnu Rava Auditorium of the University at 4pm of March 4 to discuss in detail the academic problems faced by them.
The students of the University were holding a demonstration in front of the office of the Vice Chancellor today demanding reservation of 70 per cent of the Post Graduate seats for those students who have done their graduation from the Cotton College. They also called for immediate steps to free the College Hospital from 'encroachment.'
They alleged that the University authorities have not been able to introduce the curriculums and examination system in a planned manner. Moreover, the distribution of question paper of the fourth semester for the third semester examination of the undergraduate geography major subject also exposed the irresponsibility of the University authorities.
They also questioned the VC as to when the University has been proposing to hold the examinations for those students who have not been able to clear their semester examinations.
Talking to this newspaper VC of the University said that there might be a communication gap on the issue of 'back.' In case some of the students have failed to clear their internal assessments, the University authorities have kept a provision to guide such students so that they can prepare to re-appear in the internal assessment. It may be a fact that the students are not fully aware of this provision, said the VC.
He admitted that in the undergraduate third semester geography question paper there was a problem. But that was corrected, he claimed.
He maintained that the University authorities have been trying to be student-friendly as far as possible. "We are also trying to raise the standard of learning and teaching as well," he said.
