Vast areas in Balipara inundated

TEZPUR, June 24 - Following two hours of heavy rainfall this morning, overflowing waters of major tributaries of river West Kameng and Jiabharali like Mansiri and Jorakhar inundated vast areas in Balipara, including Udmari, Aragaon, Kamarigaon, Dighali, Patbil and Mulanpukhuri villages, besides Balipara ASEB office, Balipara PHC, various educational institutions, including Balipara Higher Secondary School, Balipara Education Block Office and large areas of Rangapara town under Chardwar Revenue Circle in Sonitpur district.

Due to inundation of about one km of NH-15 from Balipara ASTC area till the rail crossing due to flash flood, a severe traffic jam led to a chaotic situation among the people in the area. The flood water also washed away two culverts at Kacharigaon area, thereby disconnecting the area with other parts of the town.

Moreover, besides the flood fury, erosion by river Kaloni, Jorakhor and Mansiri have lately caused serious threat to the existence Balipara Centre and the Balipara-Rangapara Road.

More importantly, the Balipara Higher Secondary School and Balipara PHC have been under water since the last one week following flood caused by the Jorakhar and Mansiri rivers.
