Various organisations stage protest

KOKRAJHAR, Aug 11 - The District Magistrate of Kokrajhar Madhaw Prasad Sharma while talking to mediapersons here today at the DC�s Conference Hall said that as per direction of the Chief Minister, the Kokrajhar district administration has immediately handed over rupees 25,000 to the alleged Kochugaon rape victim for medical treatment.

Superintendent of Police, Kokrajhar, SP Saikia informed that a cross FIR has also been lodged by the Bihar Regiment in the Kachugaon police station and an impartial investigation is going on.

Meanwhile, the All Bodo Women Welfare Federation (ABWWF) staged a two hour sit-in demonstration today in front of Deputy Commissioner�s office, Kokrajhar in protest against the incident.

Hundreds of women activists and local residents joined the demonstration with banners and placards demanding early arrest of the culprits.

ABWWF president Mithinga Basumatary condemned the gang-rape and demanded stern action against the rapists.

ABSU, UPP and several others political and non-political organisations have strongly condemned the incident and demanded arrest of the guilty jawans. It may be mentioned here that the shocking incident took place at Thaisouguri village, Kochugaon area under Gossaigaon subdivision in Kokrajhar district, where two jawans of 10th Bihar regiment allegedly raped the woman after taking her away from her house to a nearby school.
