Vaidik Vaishnav Mahasabha hit by storm

HALEM, April 14 � The tenth biennial State-level session of the Vaidik Vaishnav Mahasabha concluded recently at �Kanaklata-Mukunda Kshetra� of Bartangabari near here though the session could not complete its full programme due to inclement weather.

Hailstorm and heavy shower made the pandal collapse on the ground. However, the organisers managed to conduct the programme somehow. The function began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp at the �Juria Naamghar of Barangabari. It was followed by plantation programme by well-known environmentalist Nandeswar Saikia and Hema Bhuyan.

Amidst the sound of dubba kanh, sankha, ghanta and uruli, the �Dharmadhwaja� was hoisted by Rameswar Bora, president of the Vaidik Vaishnav Mahasabha. Another 20 flags were also hoisted, synchronising 20 years of the �Mahasabha�. It was followed by smriti tarpan by Manik Bora. �Bhagawat Paath� was performed by Khirod Goswami and Banamali Goswami, while �Puspanjali� was offered on the statues of martyrs Kanaklata Barua and Mukunda Kakati by Kalicharan Barua and Rohini Kakati respectively amidst a huge gathering.

The exhibition and the trade fair were declared open by Khagen Goswami, president of Sonitpur Zila Brahman Samaj. The State executive meet and the delegates� meet were held at MCD HS School, which were inaugurated by Sashadhar Rajkhowa.

The remaining programmes were cancelled due to bad weather.

Akhanda Naamkirtan: The 21st annual �Akhanda Naamkirtan� concluded its 4-day programme on April 2 at Halem.

On the first day, �holy water� was taken from the Brahmaputra by women covering a distance of 10 km from Halem. Kirtan parties from Malda, Kolkata, Guwahati and Siliguri, attended the four-day programme. Hundreds of devotees thronged the �kirtan� ignoring rough weather.

Mahavishanu Yajna: The four-day Mahavishnu Yajna and Madbhagawat Paath, concluded on April 2. Chaiduar Anchalik Brahman Samaj of Barangabari performed the �Yajna� on the premises of Vishnu Mandir at Ghahigaon, near here. �Bhakti Bandana�, cleanliness drive, �Murti-sthapan; �Dharmadhwaja Uttulon�, �Jalarohan�, �Agni-charan�, �Yajna arambha� �Uponoyon� performance, �Ahuti aradan�, release of souvenir, Khetrapal Puja, a symposium on the topic, �Yajna Sabdar Tatparjya Aru Bartaman Samayat Jar Prasanga was held.

Earlier, Pratap Goswami welcomed the devotees and Khagen Goswami, president of the reception committee hoisted the flag while �tarpan� was offered by Golap Barthakur.

The symposium was conducted by K Goswami, whereas Saurendra Mohan Goswami released the souvenir. Hashyanath Sarma Sastri was the �Acharyya�. N Sarma offered the vote of thanks.
