DIPHU, April 28 - �Rape� of a housewife within Diphu jail has created widespread commotion here.
As per a police source, under trial prisoner (UTP) Firoz Rajput �raped� the wife of police constable Narayan Kalita posted in Diphu jail on Thursday last during evening hours. The incident was immediately brought to the notice of Jailer Anil Raja. However, he did not take any action. After waiting for four days, the couple filed a case in Diphu Police Station today. Senior police officers, including the Additional Superintendent of Police of Karbi Anglong has swing into action.
On the flip side, the victim happens to be Narayan Kalita�s third wife. Additionally, the police constable is also facing disciplinary action from the department for his alcoholism. His salary too has been held up since the last couple of months.
A section of jail officials claim that Kalita sent the UTP to his official quarter on that fateful day for delivering a packet of cookies to his wife, and then caught them red-handed in a compromising position. Till the time of filing this report, investigation is on and the accused has been confined in his cell.
