USTM to host online conference

GUWAHATI, May 3 - The University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), will host an international online conference on �Emergence and Resurgence of Communicable Diseases � Social Sciences Perspectives� on July 21 and 22, 2020.

The conference will be held in collaboration with the Indian Sociological Society; University of Delhi; Forum for Learning and Action with Innovation and Rigour (FLAIR), Delhi; and Tripura Bamboo and Cane Development Centre, Agartala, stated a press release.

Some of the prominent speakers of the conference will be Prof Sailendra Sarma (University of San Francisco), Prof Liaquat Ali (former VC, Bangladesh University of Health Sciences), Dr Raj Bhandari (Member-Niti Ayog), Prof Abdul Mannan (former Chairman, UGC-Bangladesh), Prof Yasmin Saikia (Arizona State University), Prof PC Joshi (University of Delhi), Prof Abdul Matin (FLAIR, Delhi), Prof Rama V Baru (JNU), among others.

The sub-themes of the conference include �social sciences perspectives and theories on health and illness�, �education, health, wellbeing and social stigma�, �emergence and re-emergence of communicable diseases�, �COVID-19 � impacts on health, economy, education and society�, �COVID-19 and gender� and �COVID-19 � disaster management, role of media and civil society�.
