Use calamity relief fund properly: State BJP

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 24 The Assam Pradesh BJP today asked the State Government to properly utilise the calamity relief fund to mitigate the sufferings of the people affected by natural disasters including floods and erosion. The party also insisted that the Government make public how much resources it has at its disposal to tide over the present crisis.

Addressing media persons here, State BJP vice president CK Das and spokesperson Adip Phukan said that the Government has to act on a war footing in all the flood-affected areas of the State and shift people to safer places.

Das alleged that the failure in taking proactive measures by the authorities even after a warning compounded the woes of the citizens in the capital city and stressed the necessity of prompt action to tackle natural disasters.

There are enough funds to tackle a calamity, but the State Government is not serious to mitigate the woes of the citizens, Das said and flayed the Government for failing to provide adequate relief and rehabilitation to the people affected by natural disasters.

The State party unit assured that it would urge the Centre to extend all possible help to the Assam Government to tide over natural calamities including the present flood situation.
