US fellowships for teachers announced

GUWAHATI, April 22 � The United States-India Educational Foundation, Kolkata has announced the 2015 International Leaders in Education Programme (ILEP) for teachers (grades 6 to 12) teaching English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science and Special Education at schools in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura and West Bengal. This US Government sponsored programme provides international teachers with unique opportunities to develop expertise, enhance their teaching skills and increase their knowledge about the United States.

The US-based academic programme will include semester-long non-degree, non-credit academic programme at a US University including seminars on new teaching methodologies, curriculum development, lesson-planning, and teaching strategies. As part of the programme, participants will work in groups to develop a unique teacher professional development module. Participants will also audit two courses in the host university's School or Department of Education and participate in a field experience in a US secondary school near the host university. Cultural enrichment, mentoring, and support will be provided throughout the programme. ILEP will commence in January 2016 and conclude in May 2016.

Selected teachers will receive round-trip transportation, room and board and applicable allowances and will travel on J 1 visas.
