GUWAHATI, Dec 12 � US Ambassador to India Nancy Powell is arriving here tomorrow on an official visit. During her visit, she will meet Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and attend a number of meetings.
Powell will also meet personnel of the Guwahati-based Foundation for Social Transformation (FST) for its award of a US State Department Women�s Economic Opportunity grant.�
The grant, signed in late September, supports FST�s project aimed at economic empowerment of women across the North-east, selected for award by a panel of experts in Washington DC, said an official release.�
The grant will finance FST�s livelihood and soft skills training for women in parts of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur, with the goal of improving their economic condition and encouraging regional ties.� The project is a pilot attempt to create a model to support women in conflict areas and enable conflict transformation in their communities.��
According to an official media note, the US Department of State is committed to providing economic opportunities to women and developing trade throughout South and Central Asia.�
