By Ron Duarah

DIBRUGARH, Oct 9 - Geologists from Dibrugarh University have discovered belts of uranium ore in east central areas of Karbi Anglong district. The geologists claim that the rich occurrences of iron, platinum, titanium and vanadium ores in the area hold much promise for further exploration.

The team of geologists was led by Professor Dilip Majumdar of the Department of Applied Geology. His teams findings are based on further investigations using the scanning electron microscope, which is housed in the departments Central Sophisticated Instrumentation Centre, according to the varsitys Joint Registrar, Dr Binod Borah.

He said the finding of the high quality ore in the State has enthused geologists. He added that such high quality uranium ore is also found at the Bushveld Complex in South Africa. The discovery in Karbi Anglong has much potential, but geologists here are treading carefully, before making any major announcements.
