Upper, Southern, Northern Assam bag points

GUWAHATI, Aug 23 - Upper Assam, Southern Assam and Northern Assam Zone bagged three points each by virtue of their first innings lead in their respective two-day matches of the Assam Challenger League organised by the Assam Cricket Association today.

At the Judges Field, Upper Assam batsmen, resuming at an overnight score of 143 for one, went on to put up 316 runs in reply to Central Assam�s first innings total of 133. Md Arif top scored with 75 runs, while Pallav Kr Das contributed 65 runs. Bikash Chetry was the pick of the bowlers with eight wickets to his kitty. Coming in to bat in the second innings, Central Assam were 119 for one in 31 overs when the stumps were drawn.

In another match at the DN Singha Stadium in Goalpara, Lower Assam, struggling at 57 for eight on day one, could only manage 82 runs before being bundled out in 49.5 overs. In their second innings, Southern Assam were all out for 105 runs in 37 overs, while Lower Assam boys were 79 for the loss of five wickets in 35 overs at the end of the day�s play.

Resuming at 53 for 1, Head Quarter batsmen could only manage 227 runs in reply to Northern Assam�s 260. In their second innings, Northern Assam were 59 for two in 15 overs at the end of the final day�s play.

Brief scores: Central Assam 133 in 50.4 overs. Upper Assam 316 in 79 overs (Md Arif 75, Pallav Kr Das 65; Bikash Chetry 8/79). Central Assam 2nd innings 119/1 in 31 overs (Hrishikesh Tamuli 53 n.o, Abhishek Thakuri 40, Diptesh Saha 26 n.o; Dipak Gohain 1/24).

Southern Assam 139 in 50 overs. Lower Assam 82 in 49.5 overs (Amit Sinha 22; Sarupam Purkayastha 4/21, Roshan Alam 2/18). Southern Assam 2nd innings 105 in 37 overs (Riyan Parag 38; Sibsankar Roy 5/41). Lower Assam 2nd innings 79/5 in 35 overs (Angshuman Saikia 26 n.o, Aman Chetry 14 n.o; Sarupam Purkayastha 5/33).

Northern Assam 260 in 75.2 overs. Head Quarter 227 in 69 overs (Parviz Aziz 67, Dhiraj Goswami 38; Rohit Roniyar 4/50). Northern Assam 2nd innings 59/2 in 15 overs (Sunu Kumar 20 n.o, Manash Das 16; Debojit Baruah).
