GUWAHATI, April 6 - The Bill for creation of a Legislative Council or Upper House in Assam is currently pending with the Rajya Sabha.
This was stated in a written reply to the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary.
It is noteworthy that the Legislative Assembly had, on July 14, 2011, passed a resolution under Article 169 of the Constitution for creation of the Legislative Council in Assam. The Union Cabinet had approved the proposal in its meeting on November 28, 2013.
Following this, the �Assam Legislative Council Bill, 2013� was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on December 10, 2013.
