NILAMBAZAR, March 6 - People of 12 gaon panchayats namely Kaliganj, Janakalyan, Fathepur, Keutkuna,Bagbari, Manasangan, Srimantha-Kanishail, Subash Nagar, Ghuramara, Jathkapon and Pirerchak under Badarpur and South Karimganj constituencies of Karimganj district have reiterated their demand for upgradation of Kaliganj Mini PHC to a Block Health Centre to ensure better medical treatment for the poor and downtrodden patients of vast areas.
According to sources, there are 102 villages and a population of more than 1.30 lakh come within the coverage area of this mini PHC. Due to lack of sufficient doctors and nurses as well as staff, the people have been deprived of proper medical facilities.
It is to be mentioned here that the local MLA of Badarpur constituency Jamaluddin Ahmed has proposed the upgradation of Kaliganj mini hospital as a 30-bed rural hospital.
No MBBS doctor is posted at the hospital. Two Ayurvedic doctors and a few health workers are working in the hospital. People of Kaliganj area have urged the Health Minister to take necessary steps for the upgradation of the mini PHC to a block health centre and appoint sufficient doctors, nurses and staff.
