HOWRAGHAT, Nov 30 � Massive celebrations broke out in the entire Karbi Anglong hill district after the signing of the peace accord between the Central and State Governments and the UPDS on November 25 last. Thousands of people from different castes, communities and language namely Bodo, Dimasa, Bengali Samaj, Hindi speaking people etc., gathered at Howraghat in their traditional attires from Monday morning to welcome the UPDS delegation.
It may be mentioned here that after the signing of the historic peace accord with the Central and State Governments, the peace accord signatory team of the UPDS came to Howraghat first on Monday morning and interacted with the people of the area.
On Monday, under the banner of the People Alliance for Peace Agreement (PAPA), people from different sections of the societies, supporters and well-wishers of the UPDS warmly welcomed the leaders. On the occasion, a small public felicitation and interaction function was also organised under the aegis of the PAPA of Howraghat constituency committee in the heart of Howraghat town.
While addressing the people, Haren Sing Bey, general secretary, UPDS thanked all the people of Karbi Anglong for supporting them till the end of signing of the accord. He said that many people had misunderstanding in their minds over the charter of demands.
Pointing out to the charter of demands, he reiterated that non-Karbis have nothing to worry about the accord because there are no harmful �inconsiderate� clauses in the charter of demands. He urged all to remain united and sought cooperation from every section of the people in the greater interest of harmony and development.
While replying to the questions of reporters, the UPDS leader asserted that a new political party will be formed shortly in Karbi Anglong. In this regard, negotiations will be held within a very short time among the alliance parties which will benefit the district from every side, Bey said.
