AIZAWL, Jan 24: A four-day-old infant was stolen from a civil hospital in south Mizoram’s Lunglei by an unidentified woman who disguised herself as a nurse. The incident happened at around on Sunday morning.

The infant is the second child of Surota Chakma and Dhilon Chakma hailing from Tippreghat village, about 120 km from Lunglei. The baby was born at the civil hospital on January 20. “Around 4 am today, a woman dressed as a staff nurse walked into the ward and told the parents that the baby needs to be shifted to the Special Newborn Care Unit. The parents were told that the baby would be returned after an hour,” a source said.

When the nurse did not return the baby after hours, the couple realised that their child had been stolen.

“We don’t have any enemy to do such a thing to us. We have no idea who could have done it,” Dhilon said.

Lunglei police have launched an investigation into the matter.
