GUWAHATI, June 23 � Unruly scenes prevailed in the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital this afternoon after two youths, who initially identified themselves as NSUI members, entered the office of the hospital superintendent and used filthy languages against the latter.
The youths were asking for permission to allot a permanent space to run business in the hospital premises and even went on threaten GMCH superintendant Dr Ramen Talukdar.
�Later, following the intervention of the hospital staff and the police, the situation was brought under control. One of the youths however fled the scene while Mizanur Rahman, the other youth, was allowed to go after he tendered a written apology to the superintendent in presence of the officer-in-charge of the Bhangagarh police station,� sources said.
Immediately after the incident, a joint executive meeting involving the Junior Doctors� Association, GMC Employees union, Nurses� Association and the Medical College Students� Association was held at the hospital premises.
The meeting while condemning the incident asked the authorities concerned to take immediate steps so that such incidents are not repeated in future. The meeting demanded that �to serve the poor people better, the security of staff and doctors of the GMCH must be ensured.�
A joint committee which will look into common interest of the employees and doctors was also formed during the meeting.
