Universities to conduct recruitments to admin depts

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 7 - The State government has decided to assign universities the job of conducting recruitments to various administrative departments.

The decision was taken at a meeting the Chief Secretary held with Vice Chancellors of different universities yesterday.

Dibrugarh University will conduct the examinations for posts related to Police, Home Guards, Prisons, P&RD and Labour departments, while Gauhati University will conduct the exercise for Industries & Commerce, Skill Development, Transport, Excise, Forest and Environment departments. Assam University will hold the recruitment for Social Welfare and Soil Conservation departments, while Tezpur University will be in charge of the recruitment of Irrigation department.

Official sources said all the examination related works from the question paper drafting to dispatch to conduct of the examination and evaluation and declaration of results will be handled by the university concerned.

The universities will use the colleges affiliated to them as centres for conducting the examinations. They may also use any other centre at their disposal, the sources said.

Police and the district administrations will handle the security-related issues and logistic matters.

The departments will have no role inside the examination centres. The centre-in-charge, invigilators, etc., will be the responsibility of the university, the sources added.

The move comes following the controversial SI recruitment paper leak incident which has showed the State Level Police Recruitment Board in poor light.

In absence of any agency to conduct recruitment for civil posts, particularly for Grade IV and III staff, the administrative departments had been outsourcing the exercise of the police recruitment board whose original mandate was to conduct recruitment for constable and SIs.
