By Correspondent

TEZPUR, Aug 26 - Posing a new challenge to the ruling State government, particularly during the upcoming Assembly Election, 2021, a new regional political party christened as United Regional Party, Assam was formally launched at Tezpur town on Wednesday under the aegis of States known figures representing different fields, including decree, culture and literature.

President and secretary of the newly-formed regional political party respectively, noted lawyer Arup Borbora and prominent cultural activist Alak Nath made the formal announcement about the formation of the party in a press meet held at a tourist lodge here.

Addressing the press conference, the duo talked about how they would take forward the trend of regional politics at this juncture of changing political scenario.

With the participation and help of every party and national organisations having the concept of national prosperity, inclusive politics would be the major thrust of the United Regional Party, Assam (URPA). The party would always stay away from parties practising communal politics. However, we shall always give priority to organisations, which have been playing a major role in mitigating national problems, the duo said.

A united fight is an urgent need of the time to wipe out the BJP-AGP alliance and some other anti-Assam allied forces, they added.

Dignitaries like Jahnu Barua, Jerifa Wahid, among others, also attended the press meet.

Meanwhile, at the sideline of the press meet, talking to this correspondent, president of URPA, Arup Borbora, said that many of them feel that the AGP has failed as a regional political party and compromised with the very basic principle of regionalism after making an alliance with the BJP.

Our party is secular, honest and inclusive and we will include all religious, linguistic and ethnic communities living in the region, Borbora said.
