Union Minister to promote tourism in Barak valley

SILCHAR, Feb 28 - Union Minister of State for Water Resources, Parliamentary Affairs, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Arjun Ram Meghwal said that his Ministry will take steps to clean up the Barak River and enhance the tourism prospects in the valley. Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of his visit to Silchar to attend a function on Holi celebrations, Meghwal said �People of this region consider Barak River as a pious source of civilization. We shall take steps for development of the Barak River in consultation with the state government. Also, we shall discuss ways to promote tourism in this part of the country.� In this context, the Minister revealed that the Centre is keen on developing the tourism sector in Barak Valley.

He informed that a number of steps has been initiated under supervision of the Centre and the Central Water Commission to contain river erosion.

It may be mentioned that the Holi celebrations have been organised by Marwari Sammelan, Marwari Yuva Mancha and Holi Utsav Mancha Silchar at Rajiv Bhawan.
