GUWAHATI, Sept 17 - Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Som Parkash today met Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University Dr Pratap Jyoti Handique at his residence as part of the �Sampark Abhiyan�.

During the visit, the Minister discussed various issues related to the current situation in the country and GU with Dr Handique. After the meeting, Dr Handique said, �Not as a Vice Chancellor, rather the Minister met me as a general citizen. During our interaction, Som Parkash wanted to know my view about abrogation of Article 371 and I have expressed my satisfaction about this historic step.�

The GU VC further said, �Then he also wanted to know about the Gauhati University and I tried to provide as much information to him as possible. He was delighted when he came to know about our history and present status and advised me to open a medical college under the Gauhati University. He also assured of extending all help and support to us and through me, conveyed his good wishes to all members of the university.�
