Union Joint Secy calls on Mizoram CM

AIZAWL, Oct 22 - Joint Secretary (North East) of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs Satyendra Garg called on Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga at the latter�s residence here today to discuss the present border standoff between Assam and Mizoram.

An official release stated that Garg apprised the Chief Minister of the discussion which took place between the Home Secretary of Mizoram and her counterpart from Assam at Silchar on Wednesday. Following the discussion yesterday, traffic between the two States has been restored.

Garg told Zoramthanga that he expected normalcy to be restored soon. He also addressed the border issue and hoped that a mutually acceptable solution could be achieved.

The Union Joint Secretary also met Mizoram Chief Secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo and the leaders of civil societies.

Later, Garg went to meet Mizoram Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai at the Raj Bhavan here. He informed the Governor that the road blockade in the border area had been cleared, and that vehicles carrying essential goods had begun to enter Mizoram from Wednesday night.

The Governor said that he had full faith in the State officials to bring about a meaningful solution to the issue through dialogue and in a peaceful manner.
