JORABAT, June 4 - Aggrieved over the deplorable condition of a village road in Maloibari under Dispur legislative assembly constituency, a resident filed a complaint with the Prime Minister�s Office, seeking its intervention for immediate reconstruction of the road.
The 800-metre road in Maloibari village � connecting Lakhitari Chariali to Barpak � has been lying in a deplorable condition for the past three years. The road, which comes under the PWD, remains waterlogged almost throughout the year. Moreover, the entire stretch becomes non-commutable during the monsoon season.
Looking at the hardships faced by his fellow villagers while crossing this waterlogged stretch, Kamal Krishna Deka, a resident of Maloibari village, filed a complaint with the PMO on May 31, seeking immediate reconstruction of the road.
After the complaint was filed, the PMO forwarded the complaint letter on June 3 to the officer concerned, Dr Anwaruddin Choudhury, State Nodal Officer and Commissioner and Secretary, Pension and Public Grievances Department, Government of Assam for necessary action.
Deka said that the villagers had requested the PWD several times for reconstruction of this important stretch as it goes through a market area which houses a State Bank of India branch and is the sole road for many office-goers and school students, who have to face a lot of hardships every day during the monsoons.
�A few nearby roads are under construction, but when asked about this important stretch, the PWD office says it does not have sufficient funds,� Deka said.
Some villagers said that the nearby roads were currently under construction following the visit of State Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Sarma had assured the villagers of the construction and repair of the village roads. But, reportedly, only the roads on which he commuted are now under construction and the other important stretches have been left out.
The villagers of Maloibari said they were waiting to see the changes in their area, as the people of the country have voted Prime Minister Narendra Modi back to power. They hoped that he will adress their issue.
