Uncertainty over return of Archbishops mortal remains

By Newmai News

SHILLONG, Oct 17 - The Shillong Archdiocese on Thursday said that nothing is clear yet on when the mortal remains of the Archbishop of Shillong Rev Dominic Jala will arrive here.

Earlier, there were reports which stated that the mortal remains would reach the State capital by Tuesday or Wednesday.

According to Fr Jimmy Marngar, Chancellor of the Shillong Archdiocese, formalities have been completed and the body is undergoing embalming.

Fr Marngar said that as of now, the church authorities here are facing difficulties in getting plane tickets since the flight from San Francisco to New Delhi is booked.

The Chancellor of the Shillong Archdiocese stated that they were looking at other alternate routes to transport the mortal remains of the Archbishop back to India.

Depending on the availability of flight tickets, we will be able to confirm the exact date and time of arrival of the mortal remains of the Archbishop, Fr Margnar said.

The Chancellor of Shillong Archdiocese added that Shillong MP Vincent H Pala and three priests are in the USA to do the necessary work and accompany the body to India.

Meanwhile, Fr John Madur, in a statement, said that the church understands the anguish, concern and desire of the people to know the exact date and time of the arrival of the mortal remains of the Archbishop. I assure you, we are doing everything possible to bring back the body of the Archbishop as soon as possible, Fr Madur said.
