Unabated erosion on in Sissi

SILAPATHAR, Aug 1 - Thousands of hectares of land of 15 villages under Sissi revenue block in Jonai constituency have been eroded by flood and erosion by the mighty Brahmaputra and Simen river.

In last several years, several ministers and MLAs of the State visited the area to take stock of erosion and flood, but people of the area did not get any fruitful results. The villages like 1 no Sengajan Borgaon, Sengajan Baligaon, 2 no Sengajan Borgaon, Borgaon Boro, Sengajan Tinnoli, 4 no Majarbari Bengali, Baligaon, Baligaon Nadirpar, Lakhipar, Ladangguri, Lakhisuti, Balikuti, Hatgori, Bambazar, Lamabasti, Ananada Nagar, 2 no Majarbari Polan Basti, Gotpata and 4 no Majarbari were eroded by the rivers Brahmaputra and Simen. Due to erosion, at least 327 families of the area have shifted to other places after losing their properties and animals.

In the last 15 years, the former Congress Government had not taken any initiative to control erosion. Hundreds of dwelling houses, thousands of hectares of land, several market sheds have got eroded and the Sengajan Bogaribari ME and LP and Sengajan Baligaon LP School had to be shifted due to erosion.

The Chief Minister and former Lakhimpur MP Sarbananda Sonowal visited the Sengajan area before the Lok Sabha election. Sonowal had assured the public that steps would be taken to control erosion but no action has been taken so far.

On Sunday, former minister and MLA Rakibul Hussain, former MLA Tanka Bahadur Rai, secretary of APCC Sushil Pegu, Joyprakash Das along with several others visited the Sengajan area.
