UN Brahma Award to Gandhian Iralu

KOKRAJHAR, July 24 � Noted Gandhian and social activist of Nagaland Niketu Iralu fighting for the cause of peace in Nagaland said �stability to homeland� is essential and �the values and methods for struggle should not unquestionably destroy the goal. He said this while receiving the prestigious Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award 2011 at the Kokrajhar Commerce College here today.

He also pointed out that �the crisis that Bodos, Nagas and others in NE are wrestling with is that of choices for adequate purpose and meaning for life on Earth which will produce solutions that will work and temptations to choose easier methods for quick solutions and instant enjoyment which will destroy us.

Earlier, the chairman of UN Brahma Trust (UNBT) Krishna Gopal Basumatary welcoming Iralu, said that 8th UN Brahma Solider of Humanity Award, 2011 has been conferred on Iralu for his outstanding contribution as a peace initiator in Nagaland and hard work towards the cause of the neglected and downtrodden people in the region.

Dr Shiv Nath Barman editor-in-chief Janasadharan as chief guest along with UNBT members handed over the prestigious award carrying an amount of Rs. 50,000/- and Bodo traditional handloom.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Barman said Iralu has been a right choice for this award for his peaceful struggle for humanity.

Dr Kameswar Brahma, president of BSS inaugurated the award presentation ceremony which was also attended by the elder brother of Upendra Nath Brahma Someswar Brahma, UG Brahma, ex-MP amongst others.
