TURA, March 22 The Achik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF) has once again contested the claim of the police by stating that the cadre arrested on Friday, namely Chuang Togan N Sangma, was not their publicity secretary. This is the second such claim from the outfit, after the outfit contested the surrender of the alleged finance secretary of the outfit, Cheliash K Marak.

Marak had surrendered with another cadre John B Marak and had surrendered a carbine along with other arms and ammunition to the NGH police team.

The Shillong police team had arrested Chuang Sangma on Friday from a guest house in the capital. Sangma was allegedly a part of the kidnapping of the former DTO of East Garo Hills and hailed from the town of Williamnagar.

In a release sent on Saturday by its vice chairman, Khadongchak Matgrik, the outfit stated that Sangma was not connected to the outfit and had never been used by the outfit. The cadre, according to the release, is a surrendered cadre of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) with no links to their outfit.

The release once again questioned the two cadres of the outfit who had surrendered asking as to why the AK 56 and a pistol were not provided to the police team during the surrender. Matgrik also stated that the AMEF team were happier without the two surrendered cadres and would continue their fight with vigour.
