Ultra leader escapes from judicial custody

IMPHAL, March 26 - The leader of a Manipur-based armed group, who was in judicial custody for involvement in many cases including kidnapping and murder of an eight-year-old schoolgirl 15 years ago, escaped from a hospital in the wee hours here today, the police said.

Th Nando Singh alias Nanao (34), chief of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (Mangal/Nando group), had been undergoing treatment at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Porompat, the police added.

Police sources said that a case has been registered in this regard.
