ULFA political adviser Buragohain taken back to jail

By The Assam Tribune

TEZPUR, Oct 12 (PTI) - ULFA's political adviser Bhimakanta Buragohain could not be released on bail today as directed by a local court as two sureties to secure his bail were not deposited.

Granted bail by Judge Dinesh Chandra Choudhury on Friday, the ULFA ideologue was brought here from the Gauhati Central Jail, but bail petitioner, Buragohain's nephew Chandan Buragohain, could not deposit two sureties of Rs 25000 each, his lawyers said.

The octogenarian insurgent leader was taken back to the Gauhati jail and would be produced in court again on October 26.

The court had granted bail to Burgohain, who was in judicial custody since December 2003 under the Unlawful Arms Act, against two sureties of Rs 25,000 each.

He was apprehended by the Royal Bhutanese Army during Bhutan's operations against North East militants and was handed over to the Indian security forces on December 15, 2003.
