ULFA militant surrenders in Golaghat district

JORHAT, April 6 - An United liberation front of Asom-I militant identified as Gangadhar Charoh alias Ron alias Karuna Asom surrendered before Golaghat Police on Thursday.

A police source stated that Gangadhar (32) is from Balisapori village under Dergaon Police Station of Golaghat district. He joined the outlawed insurgent outfit in July 2011 and underwent arms training in the outfit�s Myanmar camp.

The source informed that the surrendered cadre told police that he fled from the Ulfa camp at Taga in Myanmar during the recent attack by security forces of Myanmar on camps of several North East India�s militant organisations in February this year.

During the past two months, the fleeing militant under reference crossed many forests and varied terrain and sneaked into India and reached Golaghat district on Wednesday via Mon district of Nagaland and thereafter reached Sonari in Charaideo district, the source stated quoting Gangadhar�s statement before police officials who were interrogating him.
