ULFA leaders discuss demand charter

By Correspondent

TINSUKIA, Aug 20 To discuss and seek public opinion about the demands of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), which were handed over to the Central Government recently, with the public of Tinsukia district, a meeting was convened by Samaj, an NGO formed by the pro-talk ULFA group headed by Mrinal Hazarika and Jiten Dutta on Saturday at the District Library Hall here. Speaking on the occasion, Arabinda Rajhowa, chairman, ULFA stated that though there were several allegations levelled against them for submitting their demands or subjects of discussion with the Central Government but the fact remains that they submitted the gist of the original demands prepared by the Jatiya Abhibartan headed by Dr. Hiren Gohain at the time of discussion. Moreover, he added, many of the points of demands might look like ordinary ones and had been the points of demands of many other organisations earlier but these points were included for the safety and security of the indigenous people of Assam and some sections had always tried to hamper the process whenever these points of demands surfaced and hence it was now very important so that these could be brought forward while discussing with the Central Government. The meeting was also addressed by former DGP Hiranya Bhattacharyya of Jatiya Mahasabha, advisor of ULFA Bhimkanta Buragohain and other eminent persons.

The meeting was attended by Jogananda Goswami, Satradhikar, Dinjoy Satra, Dipen Goswami, Satradhikar, Kopahtoli Satra, Bisha Nong Singpho and many other prominent people of the district.
