UDP releases first list of candidates for Meghalaya polls

SHILLONG, Sept 7 - United Democratic Party (UDP) today released its first list of candidates for the ensuing Assembly elections, which featured names of eight sitting legislators of the party.

�The first list includes 28 candidates. The second list of party candidates would be released next month,� UDP president, Donkupar Roy said after a party meeting.

Roy said that names of 18 candidates have been released for Khasi-Jaintia Hills region. The rest of the candidates are from Garo Hills region. �All the sitting legislators are confident of retaining their respective seats,� Roy said.

These MLAs include party president Donkupar Roy (Shella), Paul Lyngdoh (Shillong West), Embhahlang Syiemlieh (Mawlai), Jemino Mawthoh (Nongthymmai), Titosstarwell Chyne (Sohra), H Brolding Nongsiej (Mawthadraishan), Metbah Lyngdoh (Mairang) and Remington Pyngrope (Mawkynrew).

The list also included three sitting Members of District Council from the party, which includes Donkupar Sumer (Umsning), Rona Khymdeit (Nongpoh) and Moonlight Pariat (Jowai).

The list also included former Deputy Chief Minister, Bindo Mathew Lanong, who would contest from Shillong East constituency and two former Ministers � Nidhuram Hajong (Mahendraganj) and Nimarson Momin (Salmanpara).

The other names in the list are former Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People president, Joe Marwein (Shillong North), Kyrmen Shylla (Khliehriat), First Force Deki Ramsiej (Umroi) and others.
