Udalguris demand continues for train stoppage

By Correspondent

UDALGURI, Aug 25 - Despite continuous pressure from the people for the stoppage of Naharlagun-New Delhi AC Express train at Udalguri railway station, it seems that the NF Railway has turned a deaf ear to all appeals.

However, the Udalguri district ABSU, Greater Udalguri Development Committee and Chamber of Commerce, Udalguri, submitted copies of memorandum to all concerned departments, including Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and Member of Parliament of Mangaldoi HPC Ramen Deka.

During his recent visit to Udalguri, the MP, however, said that he would soon meet the Railway Minister and would present the issue before him. The memorandum also urged the Railway Minister to sanction a stoppage of the AC Express train at Udalguri railway station claiming that it is equidistant from both Rangiya and Rangapara junctions and the Udalguri station is the nearest railhead to Bhutan and West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.

Phani Ojah, president of the Chamber of Commerce, said that a delegation of Udalguri locals would soon meet the General Manager of NF Railways to revive the demand.
