Udalguri residents urged to maintain peace

UDALGURI, June 12 - Without active public support, peace cannot be restored by the civil and police administration. Hence, every conscious citizen irrespective of caste, creed and social status should come forward to restore communal harmony in Udalguri district. The authorities concerned should be kept posted about any incident which may threaten human rights.

The above was the summary of the meeting on peace and communal harmony organised today by the Udalguri district administration at the premises of Bishnu Rabha Kristi Sangha here at Udalguri town. It was attended by social workers, senior citizens, students and social organisations of Udalguri area in large numbers.

The meeting under reference was chaired by Sadhana Hojai, Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri district and was addressed by Rakesh Roshan, Superintendent of Police, Vedanta Prakash Borkotoky, Additional Superintendent of Police, Anupam Choudhury, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Lakhyajyoti Das, Assistant Commissioner and several others from among the public.

The meeting dwelt upon the need to maintain vigilance by members of both the public and administration to check rumour mongers and anti-social elements from spreading canards in the society. The district administration on the occasion distributed leaflets appealing for peace in the region.

Meanwhile, talking to mediapersons on the occasion, SP Rakesh Roshan informed that nine among the accused were already identified from among the apprehended 22 persons and they were presently behind bars.

The accused persons who were linked with the June 10 violent incident were identified as Ajay Daimari (18), Detson Daimari (25), Atul Daimari (68), Honeswar Daimari (45), Rijoy Daimari (22), Sanjib Daimari (23), Swndwn Daimari (22) � all from Jarabari under Udalguri Police Station and Birmol Daimari (43) from Nalbari under Udalguri Police Station. Case No. 141/16 u/s 143/341/336/325/307/435 IPC was registered against the accused, the SP informed.

He also informed that Udalguri police evicted an illegally constructed camps of NDFB(R) from near the spot where the incident took place.
