Udalguri readying for Christmas celebrations

UDALGURI, Dec 23 - The Christian community of Udalguri district is gearing up to celebrate the Christmas in a grand way. Ahead of the celebration and beginning of the new year, the community conveyed greetings to all the people of the district and hoped that the festival commemorating the birth of Lord Jesus would herald a new era of happiness, peace and prosperity.

Prodeep Kumar Daimary, former deputy chief of the erstwhile BAC conveyed his heartfelt greetings on behalf of the Christian community of the district and hoped that the festival would herald new hopes and aspirations with peace and development in the region. He hoped that the government would deal with the pending problems of the Bodoland issue in a positive nod and bring good news to the people of the BTC area.

Rihon Daimari, MLA of Udalguri, also wished the people of the constituency on the occasion and hoped that peace will descend upon them. He also hoped that the new year would be featured with more developmental activities in the area.

Meanwhile, all the churches of the district have been decorated with lights and colours, while most of the Christian households are wearing a new look with colourful lights and illuminated stars.

It is to be noted that there are 165 churches belonging to the Bodo Baptist Convention (BBC) in the district, while there are 65 such churches belonging to the Catholic faith and Churches of North India (CNI). There are also 15 churches belonging to the Bodo Evangelical Lutherian Church (BELC) and 15 others belonging to the Northern Evangelical Lutherian Church (NELC). There is only one church belonging to the Presbyterian at Bhairabkunda which is under the Mizoram Church Authority.
