Udalguri HS sans Science, Maths teachers

By Correspondent

KALAIGAON, Dec 1 - At a time when the Government has been launching various new educational schemes for the benefit of the students, and thousands of teachers are also being appointed to facilitate holistic teaching and improve the overall educational ambience, the collective plight of the students of a provincial high school in Udalguri district tells an altogether different story.

Situated in a remote village 10 kms away from Tangla town and 15 kms from Kalaigaon, Dhopguri High School has been running without a Science and Mathematics teacher since the last four years, i.e., from 2012.

Not surprisingly, no Science and Mathematics classes have been held in Class-IX and X during the period under reference. The shocking news came to light recently when students of the high school staged a demonstration in front of the visiting RMSA officials.

A Class-X student of he school named Mablaba Boro, who happens to be the secretary of the school students body, alleged that the Science teacher named Bhairab Chandra Bora had been promoted as the Headmaster of the school in 2011, thus causing vacancy of the Science teacher in the school. Surprisingly, the temporary Science teacher of the school had been functioning without any Science or Mathematics background.

The students also alleged that the Headmaster seldom visits the school on the pretext of indifferent health. Even the teachers present confirmed the allegation, claiming that the Headmaster attends school only three to four days a month. It was indeed shocking to know that no Science and Mathematics classes were held as per laid down norms in Class-IX and X since 2012.

With tears in their eyes, the students requested the Education Department of Assam or BTC authority to take prompt measures to appoint Science and Mathematics teachers in the school immediately, or else their future would be doomed.

It may be mentioned that unit tests are running now and the HSLC pre-final and annual examinations will commence from December 8. People of the nearby villages, including a sizeable section of anxious parents of the students therefore urged the BTC authority to immediately arrange to appoint Science and Mathematics teachers in the school so that the students do not suffer any more for no fault of theirs.
