Udalguri generates AIDS awareness

UDALGURI, Dec 3 � The Udalguri District Health Society in collaboration with Integrated Counseling and Testing Centre (ICTC), Udalguri Civil Hospital observed World AIDS day at Udalguri town with a day-long agenda on Thursday.

The day-long agenda got under way with a rally which was flagged off by Dr GC Brahma, district programme manager of RNTC, Udalguri district and the students of Udalguri Girls� HS School. The procession of students and ASHA activists, Tangla based NGO and health service providers went around Udalguri town with placards and banners shouting slogans like �Know AIDS for No AIDS�.

Later, an awareness meet was held at the premises of Udalguri Civil Hospital which was chaired by Dr Ranjit Deka, superintendent of Udalguri Civil Hospital and addressed by Mihir Baruah, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri district, Benjamin Soren, secretary of Red Cross Society, Dr GC Brahma, Dr PK Rabha, Dr Devicharan Boro, Bilat Basumatary and Chanda Singh, district media expert of Udalguri, among many others.

It may be mentioned that in Udalguri district, there are 21 AIDS patients detected so far. Among them, 10 are female, while five among them are pregnant and 11 are male. Among them, one is reported missing, three already died, among which one is female and two male.

TET coaching: The month long coaching of Teachers� Eligibility Test (TET) got underway at Udalguri town from Thursday. The coaching held under the auspices of Udalguri district committee of All Assam Gorkha Students� Union (AAGSU) was formally inaugurated by Jagadish Khanal, president of the central committee of the students� organisation amid a huge gathering of candidates of the forthcoming TET, students and guardians.

Inaugurating the month long coaching in subjects like English, Nepali, Child Psychology and Pedagogy, Mathematics and Environmental Science, the AGGSU president praised the initiatives taken by the Udalguri district AAGSU and said that the other organisations too should follow the idea to build self confidence. He praised the initiative taken by the AAGSU at Udalguri.

The meeting, chaired by Dipak Dahal, president of Udalguri district committee of the students� organisation was coordinated by Rewati Raman Sapkota, while PD Sarmah, president of Assam State committee of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, RameshDahal, assistant professor of Orang KRB College also spoke a few words to encourage the trainees. TheTET coaching will conclude on December 30 with a �mock TET�.
