Udalguri dominate archery event on day 2

SILCHAR, Jan 8 - Bijoy Das Panika bagged gold in the men�s epee category of fencing adding to the medal tally for Guwahati on the second day of the State Games.

In the women�s sabre category, Drishna Phukan of Tinsukia won gold. Karbi Anglong�s Govind Hajong hit the bulls eye winning gold in the men�s Indian round 50 m and 30 m archery. In the men�s 50m Sanswrang Uzir of Kokrajhar took silver and Monoranjan Boro from Udalguri received the bronze and in the men�s 30 m, Uzir got silver again while Namal Basumutari of Udalguri picked bronze.

Silchar dominated the women�s 50 m and 30 m in archery as Binuma Brahma winning gold in both events. Rita Basumutari also chipped in with silver in both segments. In the men�s Olympic round 50m, Rajesh Narzary of Udalguri won gold while it was Rita Basumutari to bring gold for Silchar in the women�s Olympic round 50m. Udalguri had more reasons to rejoice on the second day in archery as Sanjoy Boro won gold in the men�s Recurve event (1st 70 m) and also in the (2nd 70 m). Promila Daimari made Udalguri proud, winning gold in women�s Recurve event (1st and 2nd in 70 m). The Udalguri players also bagged gold in both men�s and women�s team event of Indian round archery.

In women�s hockey, Morigaon beat Hailakandi 3-1. Anamika, Manisha and Baby scored for Morigaon. Kambumai Rongmai scored the solitary goal for Hailakandi. In another match, Dibrugarh decimated hosts Silchar 9-0 to enter into the final, while in the second semi final, Nagaon thrashed Morigaon 7-1. In the men�s hockey, Guwahati defeated Morigaon 7-3 to enter into the semifinal.

In men�s basketball, Silchar (46) won against Sibsagar (41) Nagaon (50) defeated Jorhat (40), Goalpara (58) won against Jorhat (52) and Guwahati (57) pipped Sivasagar (54). In the women�s category, Sivasagar (18) beat Morigaon (15).

In Badminton, Guwahati shuttlers won gold leaving Sivasagar with silver. Tezpur and Nagaon bagged bronze.

In men�s football, Kokrajhar won against Morigaon 6-4 via tie breaker. In another tie breaker, Nagaon defeated Hailakandi 4-2. In the women�s football, Silchar lost to Kokrajhar 2-3. Jitu Boro (38 min), Sujata Boro (61, 68 min) scored goals for Kokrajhar. Phirthangpui Hmar (13 min), Dayabati Singha (68 min) found the net of the opposition for Silchar. In another match, Tezpur won against Dibrugarh 1-0 goals courtesy the only goal scored by Sunita Dahanga.

Tinsukia will play Sivasagar in the first men�s netball semifinal on Saturday and Guwahati will take on Nazira in the day�s second semifinal. In the women�s category, Sivasagar will play Nazira.
