UC Bania lecture at city college

GUWAHATI, Sept 13 - Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia College here organised a lecture on �Knowledge of Self� today on the occasion of the 87th birth anniversary of the late Uma Charan Bania in whose memory the college�s Uma Charan Bania Library and Education Centre was founded.

According to a press release, the lecture was delivered by social entrepreneur Dipankar Mahanta who said that today�s world is a world of knowledge. He further said, �Our knowledge of the material world would be immaterial to us if we fail to delve into our self and explore the divinity in us. We must transcend the limitations of our sense perception and know the true purpose of our life and existence.�

Earlier, college Principal Dr Sikhamoni Konwar delivered a commemorative lecture throwing light on different aspects of Uma Charan Bania�s life and works. She also acknowledged the contributions and the valued association of the late Bania�s family with the college from its very formative stage. Manoranjan Banikya, brother of the late Bania also spoke on the occasion.

The lecture programme was attended by former minister Dr Hemoprava Saikia; Additional Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna; Rajib Baruah; Jita Rani Khanikar; teachers and students of the college. Indrani Gogoi Paniphukan, Assistant Professor of economics and student Pritam Das enthralled the audience with beautiful songs.

The function was anchored by Dr Marami Choudhury, Assistant Professor of philosophy, who also gave the vote of thanks, the release added.
