NILAMBAZAR, Sept 14 - State Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister Rihon Daimary laid the foundation stones of two rural water supply schemes on Friday at Pinnagar and Ichabeel tea garden areas under Karimganj and Patherkandi subdivision, aimed at providing pure drinking water to the masses.
In this connection, a public meeting was held at Suprakandi Pinnagar village which was chaired by M S Manivannam, Deputy Commissioner Karimganj and the purpose of the meeting was explained by Swpan Roy, Executive Engineer of Karimganj Subdivision (PHE).
Aziza Ahmed Khan, MLA of South Karimganj constituency graced the occasion and said that the pure drinking water scarcity of Suprakandi and Ichabeel areas would be solved with the commissioning of the plant. Krishnendu Paul, MLA of Patherkandi LAC, who was present in the meeting claimed that these water supply schemes would immensely benefit the people of the rural areas. He also expressed the hope that many more water supply schemes would come up in the areas in the days to come which would solve the perennial water scarcity problem in Karimganj.
Nurujjaman Laskar, Additional Chief Engineer, Public Health and Engineering department while speaking on the occasion appealed to the people to properly utilise drinking water. He informed that several toilets were constructed in Assam to make the state Open Defecation Free.
While addressing the public meeting, Rihon Daimary, Minister of PHE Assam explained the benefits of pure drinking water. �Now, it is the duty of the people to maintain the water supply schemes properly,� he said.
He also directed the officials to ensure proper implementation of ongoing projects. The minister assured to the public that government is going to take the positive steps to ensure the supply of pure drinking water door to door within the year 2024. Present Suprakandi GP president Lalpana Roy, senior BJP leader Krishna Das, Shipra Goon, Nilotpol Das, Superintending Engineer (PHE) Binod Chandra Deka were present, among others.
Later, the minister also participated in an official review meeting held at the DC�s conference hall.
