Two sworn in as ministers in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Oct 1 - Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik today sworn in Dasakhiat Lamare and Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar as Cabinet ministers of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government at the Raj Bhavan here today.

�Congratulations to Renikton Lyngdoh and Dasakhiatbha Lamare. We welcome both the ministers to the Cabinet and we wish them all the best,� said Chief Minster Conrad Sangma after the swearing-in ceremony.

The new ministers have replaced Samlin Malngiang of the Hill State People�s Democratic Party and Comingone Ymbon of the National People�s Party (NPP) in the council of ministers.

Malngiang was holding Public Health Engineering, Secretariat Administration Department and other portfolios while Ymbon held the Fisheries, Public Works Department (Building), among other portfolios.

Lamare is the son of Ngaitlang Dhar, one of the richest politicians of the State. Dhar in his 2018 election affidavit declared assets worth a whooping Rs 290 crore. He, however, lost the election from Umroi constituency.

A first-time MLA, Lamare (27), had won from Mawhati constituency on an NPP ticket. His uncle Sniewbhlang Dhar is the Public Works Department (Roads and Bridges) minister. Tongkhar represents the Mawkyrwat constituency in South West Khasi Hills.
